If you save and invest about 20k per month which gives 12% return, then you can make about Rs 2 crores over 20 years (See illustration below for 1 crore)

So the important point is how much do you save per month. Investing in direct mutual funds will get you there much faster. Make sure your fund scheme has the word “Direct Plan” in it.
