It is better to avoid close ended funds even if they are available at a discount in the open market. The reason why they are available at a discount is itself a signal that lack of liquidity and other issues are driving the prices down. Else they should be selling for a premium!
In general avoid close ended funds even during “New Fund Offering” or NFO season!
