You can become a SEBI Registered Investment Advisor who only provides consulting and advisory services. You can let the client do the follow on tasks of investments on his or her own.
To become a SEBI RIA, you will need to pass two exams of National Institute of Securities Management (NISM). Series X-A (or Level 1) and X-B (or Level 2).
These exams ensure that you become well acquainted with the following:
- Know the process of investment advisory, stages in the advisory process, creating and implementing a financial plan.
- Understand various products, evaluate their suitability, risks, returns and strategies
- Regulatory & Taxation aspects: Income-tax, Wealth tax, Estate planning
- Insurance, Retirement planning
Some people also go for a Certified Financial Planner course (CFP) but this is not as well recognised and established as the RIA tag to make you a truly independent advisor with ‘fiduciary’ responsibility.
