The maths is sobering. India’s median age is about 29 today and will cross 35 by 2041. At the growth pace of the past decade, income per person reaches only around 6,000 dollars by then. High income status arrives closer to 2057, well after the young population advantage has faded away.<\/p>\n
The gap can still be closed. It needs faster productivity growth, more women in paid work, and better schooling and health for the young cohort we already have.
